Our India International Adoption program supports prospective adoptive parents pursuing intercountry adoption through India’s central authority, the Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA). India is a Hague Convention country, which means the process is structured around child welfare safeguards, transparent approvals, and required post-adoption reporting. Mi Yungs Prayer is to guide you with clarity, integrity, and experience—so you understand the process, expectations, and next steps from the very beginning.

Eligibility Requirements

Parents must meet the following requirements:

  • Must be at least 25 years old
  • Couples must be married a minimum of 2 years
  • Married couples, at least one parent must be a U.S Citizen.
  • Married couples, the consent of both the spouses for the adoption shall be required.
  • Single women must be an U.S. Citizen
  • Healthy with no serious or life-threatening diseases.
  • History of substance abuse, unstable mental health will be assessed for eligibility
  • Cannot be convicted of a crime
  • Financially stable
  • Able to meet U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) requirements

Age Requirements:

The combined age determines the composite age on the date of registration with CARA. CARA calculates total age in years, months and days.

The minimum age difference between the child and either of the parent(s) should not be less than 25 years.

Non-Indian Parents and Couples with two or more children shall only be considered for special needs children.

Non-Resident Indian (NRI) and Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) are eligible to adopt "healthy" children.

The adoption process from India varies based on several factors.

  • Choose an accredited Adoption Service Provider (ASP) - Mi Yungs Prayer is licensed by the U.S. Department of State as an ASP.
  • Apply to Be Found Eligible to Adopt by completing and receiving home study approval
  • CARA Registration
  • U.S. Immigration Approval for "a child"
  • Child Referral Acceptance
  • Obtain Required U.S Immigration Approvals for the Specific Child’s U.S. Immigration
  • Adoption Finalized in India
  • Travel to India to take custody of child
  • Bring your child home to the U.S.
  • Complete post‑adoption visits and reports

Timeframes & Travel Requirements

The wait time for a referral varies on the openness of the Parent(s) with an average of 1-3 years Parents who are open to special medical needs or developmental delays may experience shorter wait times. For NRI and OCI, wait times for "healthy" children are longer.


Generally, 1 trip is required (estimated up to 14 days). Some regions in India require 2 trips.
