About Mi Yungs Prayer

Mission Statement

Mi Yungs Prayer mission is to create a partnership in equipping and edifying adoptive parents by providing services, counseling, and financial consulting for adoption purposes to break through barriers, to ensure adoption will continue to be a viable option for families.

Our Values

Transparency and consistent communication throughout the adoption process.
Providing families support and guidance
Adoption should not be hindered because of finances.

Our Beliefs

Our prayer is that families are encouraged to:

  • “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6 (ESV)
  • “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. These words that I am giving you today are to be in your heart. Repeat them to your children. Talk about them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.” Deuteronomy 6:5-7 (CSB)
  • “Fathers (parents), don’t stir up anger in your children, but bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.” Ephesians 6:4 (CSB)
  • “Therefore, be imitators of God, as beloved children.” Ephesians 5:1 (ESV)

We believe that children are a blessing:

  • “For you created my inmost being, you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful; I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.” Psalm 139:13-16 (NIV)
  • “Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from him.” Psalms 127:6 (NLT)

Mi Yungs Prayer wishes to serve families who are adopting a child(ren), by striving to be the hands and feet of Jesus.

As the founder and Executive Director of Mi Yungs Prayer,as an adoptee, I believe in adoption and my heart is for the families adopting!

I was born in South Korea and stayed with “someone” until I was around 6 months old. I am hoping it was my birth mother, who did want to care for me, but I do not know for sure. I was told that I was left at a “conference center”, which were buildings around Seoul, Korea, where babies were left abandoned. Someone picked me up from there and took me to an Orphanage. Here I was “processed” which included a medical check and put under the bloodline of a doctor, so I would be eligible for adoption.

I was at the orphanage for a short time when my adopted parents received a letter about me, stating, “This precious baby girl stayed in a crib by the stove in the office all day without crying. We fed her when she was hungry, but mostly she slept. Big eyes, alert expression.” My Korean name, “Mi Yung” was given to me by the orphanage.

My parents chose to adopt me once they read the letter and saw my photo! I arrived in the United States by escort and was a little over a year old and only weighed 10 pounds. A couple of days after my arrival, I went into the hospital because I had severe malnutrition and was very unresponsive. My mother told me that it took three months for me to smile at her. The medical care I received along with my parent's love and nurturing started my healing journey. My adoption was finalized when I was a toddler and I remember waving a small United States flag in the court room. The American name chosen by my parents for me was “Julie”. Because of my parent's love and nurturing, along with my own journey of healing, I received a wonderful and strong foundation. I believe children are a blessing and a gift from God and as Ambassadors of Christ, we are ordained to “defend the cause of orphans” (Isaiah 1:17). I am so blessed

My experience with adoption is my own and I do understand not all adoption experiences for adoptees are the same. Each adoptee has their own personal story. My prayer is that this agency will empower and support those who are wishing to grow their family through adoption and for all the adoptees, who have come before and after me, that their lives are blessed through adoption.

As a newly formed adoption agency, the name of “Mi Yung” was chosen to signify the full journey of an adoptee. Mi Yungs Prayer is being established at a time when adoption appears to be decreasing. I see this as an opportunity and a time to rise up! There are still so many orphans that need loving families and adoption is a wonderful way to give hope and opportunity to a child.

Thank you for taking this journey with me!Julie Kula, MSW
